It is normal to feel anxious ahead a job interview, and it is often better to feel a little nervous, but you will be able to minimize pre-interview nerves with some thoughtful homework.

To apply and complete the application for the post hopefully you have carried out some basic research on the company but to be successful in the next step you are going to have to do a more thorough job.

There are not many companies nowadays that do not have a website so begin by taking a look at the company website and read the company history, about us page, and the products and services that are offered.

Just knowing how and why the company was formed will tell you a lot about the company ethos and a good idea of how you might answer your questions. For example if much is made of teamwork it is highly likely that they are expecting you to be a team player and you should give thought to and recall situations when you have revealed this trait.

When applying for a sales position prepare for any role playing questions as it is very likely that you will be required to demonstrate how you would deal with an awkward potential customer or how you might up sell. If you have experience in a sales position you will know that there are sales interview questions that likely to be asked and without taking the time to research the company's product portfolio you will not be able to give an authoritative answer.

Sit back in a chair and close your eyes and ears to the world. Suppose that you are sitting in the interview and imagine the questions that might be asked of you and the interview questions answers you would give. Don't just do this once, do it whenever you have the opportunity. Many of the questions you have asked yourself will not arise but you will be surprised how many do and just think how impressive it looks when you can sit and talk with some authority rather than bluff your way through the answer.

Look up sample interview questions and practice so you can answer with confidence. Take the time to do your homework, thorough research shows a commitment and interest in the company and may just persuade your interviewer that you are the right person to fill the job. The more time you spend honing your job interview skills the more successful you will be.

Lastly remember that you will have the opportunity at the end of the interview to ask questions so think of some good interview questions of your own beforehand, you will have gone through an intense time and your mind may have had enough and just go blank.
